Winner 55 Word Challenge: Week Twenty-Eight

Winner 55 Word Challenge:
Week Twenty-Eight

A lot of great stories this week! Thank you to everyone for participating.

Honorable Mentions:
@nickjohns999: I loved the tone of this story. I could imagine the wolf, arrogant, sure of himself. None can stand against him.
@StuffedO:  I laughed at this. It put me in mind of The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Definetly something I would want to do.
@klingorengi: Revenge always makes a good story. Almost makes me feel sorry for the bully’s. Almost.

Winner:
Not only did Olivia combine all 3 photos’ she did it flawlessly, not an easy task with so few words. I kept coming back to this over and over again. Great story! Olivia, you get the winner’s badge, posted at the top of this page. Just copy it and do what you want… post it on your web site, frame it… if you get a tattoo, I want to see it. J  You also will get a $5.00 gift card from Amazon in your email.

Check out Olivia’s story.

Loved and Lost

Rain dashed against the window of the train. Beyond, he could see the shadow of the old asylum. A single light glowed bravely in the attic, begging him to return to the wolves’ den. But he couldn’t stay.

He pressed a hand to the window, saying goodbye to the fears. To the ghosts.

To Cyril.

Thank you everyone for entering. See you next week!

55 Word Challenge: Week Twenty-Eight

55 Word Challenge
Week Twenty-Eight

Welcome back to #55WordChallenge. No guest artist today, (anyone out there want to be featured?) so I am judge, jury and executioner today. Bahaha!

For those that are uninitiated, the 55 Word Challenge is a contest to write a story in 55 words or less. Not an easy task, but fun and I have been blown away by some of the entries. See for yourself, all the past contests can be found here.

The challenge begins at noon Eastern time every Wednesday and ends at noon Thursday. The story is based on one of three photo prompts and can be written in any genre you choose. My only request is no porn. I don't want to hear graphic details. If it is erotic, make it titillating, not obscene. I know that can be done and done well.

The story is to be posted in the comment section below, along with your twitter handle or email address, so I can contact you if you are the winner. If you don't want to list your email address, send it to me at jezri@writing.com. I promise I won't distribute it, but if you are the winner I need a way to notify you and to send you your prize.

And what does the winner get? This purty badge for one. For two, a gift card for $5.00 from Amazon. (The prize will be rewarded within about week and sent to your email.) Also, I will be offering a monthly prize to the story I liked the best between the winners. That will be announced at the end of the month who gets this.

If you are an artist that would like to have your work featured, let me know!

Winner: 55 Word Challenge Week Twenty-Seven

Winner 55 Word Challenge:
Week Twenty-Seven

Wow, none of you made this easy for me this week;  all great stories.  I agonized over this, really I did. And when it came down to it, I couldn’t narrow it down to just 4, (3 HM’s and 1 winner,) so we have 4 honorable mentions today.
I want to say, the most popular picture seemed to be the one with the hand. That was courtesy of my daughter, Sarah, who in trying to take a picture of herself, managed only to capture her hand. I am so glad I stopped her from deleting it off my phone.
The blurry child is my son, Caleb. I have no idea why it came out like that, but again I loved it and thought it would make a good prompt.
The other was taken the other day at my son’s birthday party and is one of the lakes at Teddy Bear Park.

Honorable Mentions:
@noxiousserenade:  This was brilliant and left me breathless.
@caramichaels: The monster in the closet! Every child’s fear and no one ever listens to them.
@JXilon: I don’t know if you knew when you wrote this, but as stated above it is my daughter’s hand. I was immediately drawn in by the character’s name and knowing my daughter, she would have her revenge too.
@nazilliville: Is it wrong that this made me laugh? I could just picture the scene. Poor Susie, I hope she was able to come home. Lesson in kidnapping, 101… make the drop off location easy to figure out.

Winner:
@PurpleQueenNL:  Again, the monster in the closet! There is always so much you can do with that, but in this case it seems the adults knew what was in there and used it as punishment. I could feel the fear. Great job!  Grab the Winners badge and DM me your email addy so I can send you the Amazon Gift card.
Check out the winning story!
No! Please no, not back in there, please no!
I want to come out, I’ll be good.
I won’t cry, I won’t laugh, I won’t eat, I’ll just sit here okay?
But not in there okay?
Not in the dark again okay? Not with the monster?
It hurt so much last time.

If anyone has photos they would like to contribute, or would be interested in judging, let me know! You can email me at
jezri@writing.com, put 55 Word Challenge in the subject line, or send me a message on twitter, @jezri1. Thank you everyone for entering!

Bumper Sticker update: I am still waiting for the bumper stickers to come in. As soon as the arrive I will send them out to everyone that won one.  I also have free copies of Halloween Frights for all those that participated in my Birthday 55 Word Challenge. I will be sending coupon codes to download for free this weekend.

Winner 55 Word Challenge: Week Twenty-Six

Winner 55 Word Challenge:
Week Twenty- Six

This is one of those weeks when I am glad I didn’t have to choose a winner, because I loved them all. A lot of great stories and I’m not sure I could have narrowed it down. Rebecca Treadway did a wonderful job! So without further ado:

Honorable Mention:
After The Party

One minute she was skipping home after an amazing birthday party; the next being bundled into a car to destination unknown.

She glanced out of the rear window and saw her balloons, caught on a fence; crying she realised they were forever trapped unless someone chose to release them.

Winner:
I hold my sister's hand in the empty parking lot. She clutches a bag of limp glow-in-the-dark balloons from home. She really wanted the clown to make a phosphorescent dinosaur.

A carnival flier catches on my feet advertising last week's dates.

We sit criss-cross on the asphalt, popping colors and twisting rubber into prehistoric beasts.
Please DM me your email addy so that I can send you your prize. Also, the badge at the top of the page is yours. Go ahead and snatch it and display proudly!
Thank you everyone, see you next week. If anyone is interested in judging future contests or contributing art, let me know.

55 Word Challenge: Week Twenty-Six

55 Word Challenge
Week Twenty-Six

Welcome back to #55WordChallenge. Today's Judge and contributing artist is Rebecca Treadway. *Happy Dance* For those of you who don't know Rebecca, she is a fantastic cover artist. Just check out the covers to the Satan's Toybox anthologies and you will see how amazing she is. She also did the cover of Sam for me. :-) (See how I slipped in a bit of promo there. Shameless, that's me.) Rebecca is among the best in the world of indie. I know she will always tell it like it is, without batting an eye. It's that quality that puts her among the best of the best.

Winner: 55 Word Challenge Week Twenty-Five

Winner 55 Word Challenge
Week Twenty-Five

It was a tough  decision this week. Thank you all for making this a wonderful birthday!

HM’s
@Klingorengi Of course I always love what Jeff writes, but this one made me chuckle. Maybe because we are a bit too familiar with people just doing their job.

@lejamez  This is Laura’s first entry and I was immediately taken with the story. Well done.

@nickjohns999 Zombies are people too! Enough said.

Winner:

@LupusAnthropos  I love how this reminded me of Jaws, but the monster is quite different.

"Why won't you close the beach? Does somebody else have to die first?"

"You really think there's a shark?"

"All I said is that something out there is killing swimmers. That's worse than having the beach closed."

"Bah! Ain't nothin' but sand crabs around here. ... Hey... Jim?"

"Yeah? What?"

"What happened to the lighthouse?"

Prizes:
Lupus, DM me your email address so I can send you the $5.00 gift card. But that’s not all! This is my birthday contest so there is more! You also get a #55WordChallenge bumper sticker. I will need a mailing address to send that. It will take a few weeks to get to you… not sure how long. As soon as the bumper stickers reach me, I will notify you when I mail them out.
@lejamez  @nickjohns999 and @Klingorengi also get bumper stickers, so if Laura and Nick can DM me where to send those, that will be awesome! I already know where to send Jeff’s.  ;-p

@caramichaels, @ClareStubbs2 and @LupusAnthropos won copies of The Second Wave: A Post- Apocalyptic Tale. DM me your email addy’s so that I can send you the Smashwords coupon. You can download it in whatever form you need.
@WakefieldMahon and @nickjohns999 get a copy of Monsters! Same deal. I will send you both a coupon for Smashwords.

And now, since I want everyone to have something, you all will get a copy of Halloween Frights. I’ll be sending that to everyone in about a week. If you want it send me your email addy. J
Thank you to everyone for entering! You all rock! See you next week.

Today is a special day for 55 Word Challenge. For one, it is my birthday! Yep, that's right, yours truly is getting older.  Scary, I tell ya, just plain scary.
But that's not what makes it special... although it's a close second. No. Today we have an amazing artist with us; Thomas Arensberg. I hope you find his art as inspiring as I do.
